  3. Coinbase shows the key once: a key name reading organizations/…/apiKeys/… (or just its ID) and a private key — a block starting -----BEGIN EC PRIVATE KEY-----. Paste the name in the first field and the whole block in the second.

Futures brokers

For prop-firm and funded futures accounts. TopstepX offers no key that only reads, so it carries its own warning. Interactive Brokers does give a read-only token, but reads statements: it is a few hours behind, not live. Others (Tradovate, Rithmic, CQG) do not open their API to a journal without a partner agreement, or to prop-firm accounts at all.

Needs the paid ProjectX API Access subscription, which TopstepX sells separately from the Combine.

  1. In TopstepX open Settings → API, link your account to ProjectX and subscribe to ProjectX API Access. Open it on TopstepX ↗
  2. Click Add API Key and copy it: it is shown once.
  3. Paste your TopstepX username and that key below. With more than one active account (a Combine and a funded one, say) type the name of the one to journal in the last field.

Read this first. TopstepX has no read-only key: the API key you paste can also place and cancel orders and, through them, lose a Combine. The journal only ever reads trades and orders, and stores the key encrypted, but anyone who got the key could trade with it, so treat it like a password and delete it in TopstepX (Settings → API) if you stop using the journal. Topstep has its own rules for API use: read them before you connect.

Interactive Brokers

Only futures are read, one account per query. Stops and targets are not in a statement.

Not live. Interactive Brokers publishes trades in statements, not live. A Trade Confirmation query shows a fill within a few hours; an Activity query shows it the next morning. Use both, and read this tile as "up to a few hours behind".

  1. In Client Portal open Performance & Reports → Flex Queries and make an Activity Flex Query: tick Trades → Executions (select all fields), format XML, period Last 365 Calendar Days, and leave the date and time format as it is. One query per account. Open it on Interactive Brokers ↗
  2. Make a second one under Trade Confirmation Flex Query (Executions, XML) to see today's fills within hours. Optional, but without it a trade appears the next morning.
  3. Open Flex Web Service on the same page, switch it on and make a token (the longest validity it offers). Leave the IP restriction empty: this server's address is not fixed. The token can only fetch reports.
  4. Paste the query id (or both, separated by a comma), the token, and the time zone the statements are in. New York if you never changed it.
